The legendary Italian house Pininfarina that designed some of the iconic Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and Cadillac models, finally presented its all-new concept Pininfarina Cambiano. The name of the futuristic vehicle comes from the town where the company` Styling Center is based. The car design combines elegance, sportiness and comfort. It is inspired by the 1957 Lancia Florida II. The prototype was built by the founder Pinin Farina for his own personal use.
Pininfarina Cambiano: Design
Main Cambiano`s highlights are the harmonious proportions, aerodynamic shape and functional stylistic elements. The Pininfarina Cambiano has unconventional layout of the doors – one large door on the driver’s side and two smaller doors on the passenger side that open from the centre. The interior features a wood floor and stitching-free upholstery.
Cambiano`s dimensions evoke dynamism and fluidity, thanks to the impressive golden grey color and blue reflections. There are metal inserts in the sides. The panoramic roof with a carbon honeycomb structure completes the body of the car. It is translucent in some areas and transparent in others. The headlights are incorporated into the grille and protruding wheel arches. The light is an integral part of the Cambiano design.
The Pininfarina`s masterpiece incorporates into the cabin an innovative video-art projection. The interior blends an extensive use of exclusive natural materials, advanced technologies and innovative concepts. The leather used on the seats is from the Pininfarina Leather Collection. The uprights and door panels are upholstered with polylactic acid, while the entire lower part of the passenger compartment and the floor is made of recycled wood.
There is a precious detail – a limited edition timepiece manufactured by the Swiss watchmaker Bovet 1822. The instrumentation is divided into three zones according to use: functions and performance, navigation and comfort, multimedia and connections. The main display shows the power, range, the driving mode (Ecocity, Snow/Ice, Efficiency, Sport, Drifting), and the speedometer. The second screen is for navigator, warning messages and the multimedia functions. The touch pad gives access to the interactive instrumentation and climate control.
Pininfarina Cambiano: Performance
The Cambiano is a plug-in hybrid. Each wheel is driven by a 60-kW electric motor. The car flies with a top speed of 155 mph. It accelerates from 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) in 4.2 seconds. The combined output is 320 horsepower. The battery pack is installed between the seats and the rear axle. It has a capacity of 50 kW/h, a peak power delivery of 500 kW, and can be recharged in 6 hours using a 6 Kw/h grid and in 52 minutes with the APU.
The light chassis is made of carbon fibre cell and two aluminium modules.
There are four driving modes – Ecocity, Snow/Ice, Sport and Drifting mode.
